During my time being laid off, I took some photos down at the train tracks near my apartment.

Photos from NYC

Last April, I had a lovely visit to New York City and I had digital camera handy. While walking through the city and central park, I took photos. Today I went through the photos, did some editing, and am now uploading them here for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

JE Negative Photography Logo

A friend of mine needed a logo done as he was looking to begin some wedding photography. I gladly took on the job as I love designing logos, and here are the results.

Wedding Invitation

A little while back, my cousin got engaged and asked me to do the wedding invitations. Pink and brown were the colors she was using, so those are the colors I used. The photo on the outside of the invitation is a brown duotone (photo from sxc.hu), and as you can see, the inside has brown text and pink polka dots. To save on printing costs, I used GotPrint.com (just a little FYI to any budget conscious designers that might be reading this), and the invitations arrived quickly, cheaply, and good-looking.

Pieces "Rubber"

So, almost a year ago I was contacted by a freelance writer in New York who was in need of a designer for her e-zine, Pieces. Being a freelancer, she didn't have the funds to pay me for the work, but I was interested in doing the project anyway (it's honestly a cool idea, and I wanted to be part of it). Each month, the e-zine focuses on a different material...this first issue is about Rubber.

Welcome to my art blog!

My name is Rachel Bruen, and I'm a graphic designer currently located in Boyertown. I graduated May of 2007 from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania with my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Communication Design, and have since held several design jobs.

I've decided to set up a blogger account for the simple reason that I wish to have a place to post the artsy things I do in my spare time. I have an online portfolio of my design pieces at www.RachelBruen.com, but I want a specific place to post my little side projects and the results of my various hobbies. Freelance design projects, photography, and any drawings that I do will be put up here. I plan on updating this blog regulary, as I want to keep all of my skills sharp. Not to mention, this makes a lovely edition to my existing online portfolio.
